Scream Aim Fire- Bullet for My Valentine-Scream Aim Fire-2007
Lyrics
WARNING: BAD LANGUAGE
Kill your enemies
My brothers dead around me
Wounds are hurting
Death is creeping for me

Smoke is lighting, hearts are pounding
Chaos soon ignites
The carnage made is one for all
Will I meet my Maker?

Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time
Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time

Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time
Over the top, over the top
The only way out is to die

God has spoken
Through His conscience
As I scream, aim and fire
The death toll grows higher

God has spoken
Through His conscience
As I scream, aim and fire
The death toll grows higher

Fuck these battlefields
The bullets stand around me
Bodies falling
Voices calling for me

Limbs are flying, men are crying
Such a hurtful sight
The carnage made is one for all
See no prisoners

Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time
Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time

Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time
Over the top, over the top
The only way out is to die

God has spoken
Through His conscience
As I scream, aim and fire
The death toll grows higher

God has spoken
Through His conscience
As I scream, aim and fire
The death toll grows higher

Scream, aim, fire
Scream, aim, fire

Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time
Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time

Over the top, over the top
Right now it’s killing time
Over the top, over the top
The only way out is to die

God has spoken
Through His conscience
As I scream, aim and fire
The death toll grows higher

God has spoken
Through His conscience
As I scream, aim and fire
The death toll grows higher

Scream, aim, fire

This song relates to the book because the protagonists, Carson, Deucalion and Michael, are basically fighting a war against the antagonist, Victor Helios, to keep humanity in existence and to stop Helios’ “new race” from spawning.
This relates to my analysis of the books because Victor is trying to take over all social classes and society and fill it with the members of his new race, like when the song says “kill your enemies…”, that’s what Victor is doing and Carson’s “…brothers are dead…”, like people she once knew are being killed and their place is taken by the new race.

No Reason-Sum 41-Chuck-2004
Lyrics
All of us believe
That this is not up to you
The fact of the matter is
That it’s up to me

Hey, Hey, Hey
Hey, Hey, Hey
Let’s Go

How can we fake this anymore
To turn our backs away, and chose to just ignore
(Some say) Some say it’s ignorance
It makes ’em feel some innocent
It takes away a part of me
That I won’t let go of

[Chorus]
Tell me why can’t you see, it’s not the way
When we all fall down, it won’t be too late
Why is there no reason we can’t change
When we all fall down, who will take the blame
Will it take

Nothing could ever be this real
A life unsatisfied, that I could never feel
(Some Say)This future’s not so bright
Some can’t make the sacrifice
It’s much more than just black and white
And I won’t follow

[Chorus]

Times like these I’ve come to see how,
Everything but time is running out

Hey, Hey, Hey
Hey, Hey, Hey
What

All of us believe
In what we need
What we have’s what we don’t see

[Chorus]

Tell me why can’t you see, it’s not the way
(so how long, has this gone, i don’t see this ending)
When we all fall down, it won’t be too late
(it’s too late, we can’t change, what has now begun)
Why is there no reason we can’t change
(we have time, it’s not right, why are we pretending)
When we all fall down, who will take the blame
(we fit along, for so long)
Will it take
(We knew this all along)

This song relates to what happened in the books because I feel that this song is about the downsides of war, and even though the protagonists are fighting this war to protect the people, things might still go wrong and end up hurting someone or a lot of people. When
the song says, “when we all fall down,” the characters will keep fighting each other until the world is destroyed, and, “it’ll be too late”, makes me think that when they see what they have done, and, end their fighting, there’ll be nothing left on the planet to fight for. This also relates to my analysis because, by looking at this through a social lens, all kinds of people will eventually take part in this war and eventually destroy each other.

Aliens Exist-Blink-182-Enema of The State-1999
Lyrics
Hey mom there’s something in the backroom
Hope it’s not the creatures from above
You used to read me stories
As if my dreams were boring
We all know conspiracies are dumb

What if people knew that these were real
I’d leave my closet door open all night
I know the CIA would say
What you hear is all hearsay
I wish someone would tell me what was right

Up all night long
And there’s something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday
I’m not like you guys
I’m not like you

I am still a skeptic yes you know me
Been best friends and will be till we die
I got an injection
Of fear from the abduction
My best friend thinks I’m just telling lies
Alright

Up all night long
And there’s something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday
I’m not like you guys
I’m not like you

Dark and scary, ordinary
Explanation, information
Nice to know ya, paranoia
Where’s my mother, biofather

Up all night long
And there’s something very wrong
And I know it must be late
Been gone since yesterday
I’m not like you guys
Twelve majestic lies

This song relates to what happened in the books because in the books, the antagonist Victor Helios tries to destroy humanity and replace it with the “new race”. I feel that these people of the new race could be considered aliens, because they have a lot of different features compared to humans, like two hearts. I really think this song fits well with these books because a lot of people think aliens don’t exist, but by looking at what happened in these books, they kinda do. This also relates to my analysis because by looking at this song from the social lens, the singer judges himself based on what happened to him, like how he claimed to be abducted and “got an injection” from those who captured him.

Nightmare-Avenged Sevenfold-Nightmare-2010
Lyrics
WARNING: BAD LANGUAGE
Nightmare!
(Now your nightmare comes to life)

Dragged ya down below
Down to the devil’s show
To be his guest forever
Peace of mind is less than never
Hate to twist your mind
But God ain’t on your side
An old acquaintance severed
Burn the world your last endeavor

Flesh is burning
You can smell it in the air
‘Cause men like you have
Such easy soul to steal (steal)
So stand in line while
They ink numbers in your head
You’re now a slave
Until the end of time here
Nothing stops the madness,
Turning, haunting, yearning
Pull the trigger

You should have known
The price of evil
And it hurts to know
That you belong here, yeah
Ooh, it’s your fuckin’ nightmare

(While your nightmare comes to life)

Can’t wake up in a sweat
‘Cause it ain’t over yet
Still dancing with your demons
Victim of your own creation
Beyond the will to fight
Where all that’s wrong is right
Where hate don’t need a reason
Loathing self-assassination

You’ve been lied to
Just to rape you of your site
And now they have the nerve
To tell you how to feel (feel)

So sedated as they
Medicate your brain
And while you slowly
Go insane they tell ya
“Given with the best intentions
Help you with your complications”

You should have known
The price of evil
And it hurts to know
That you belong here, yeah
No one to call
Everybody to fear
Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah
Ooh, it’s your fuckin’ nightmare

Fight
Not to fail
Not to fall
Or you’ll end up like the others

Die
Die again
Drenched in sin
With no respect for another

Down
Feel the fire (fire)
Feel the hate
Your pain is what we desire

Lost
Hit the wall (wall)
Watch you crawl (crawl)
Such a replaceable liar

And I know you hear their voices
(Calling from above)
And I know they may seem real
(These signals of love)
But our life’s made up of choices
(Some without appeal)
They took for granted your soul
And it’s ours now to steal

(As your nightmare comes to life)

You should have known
The price of evil
And it hurts to know
That you belong here, yeah
No one to call
Everybody to fear
Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah
Ooh, it’s your fuckin’ nightmare

This song relates to what happened in the books I read. I feel that this song is about everyone’s worst fears coming into reality, like the end of the world or the end of humanity. The theme of the end of humanity is present in my books, because a evil doctor (Victor Helios) is trying to end humanity and replace it with his “new race”. This is the nightmare of protagonists Carson, Michael and Deucalion. They are fighting so that their nightmare doesn’t become a reality.
This relates to my analysis because looking at this with a gender lens, usually women don’t fight battles and things like that, but they don’t care because they just want to end their trauma and fear by eradicating evil forces, which is what each of the protagonists aim to do. This breaks the common misconception of women not being soldiers or fighters.

Crazy Train-Ozzy Osbourne-Blizzard of Oz-1980
Lyrics
Crazy, but that’s how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it’s not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate
Mental wounds not healing
Life’s a bitter shame
I’m going off the rails on a crazy train

I’ve listened to preachers
I’ve listened to fools
I’ve watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane
I’m going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words
Yeah-h!

Heirs of a cold war
That’s what we’ve become
Inheriting troubles I’m mentally numb
Crazy, I just cannot bear
I’m living with something that just isn’t fair

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what’s to blame
I’m going off the rails on a crazy train

I feel that this song is like a anti-war tune. I think this fits with my books because the protagonists are trying very hard to prevent an all out war with Dr. Helios. Even though their attempts for no war were not successful, they tried to make their battle without weapons, more like fear, like the Cold War. But, it became a war with weapons instead. This relates to my analysis of the books, because by looking at this through a social lens, everyone thinks that they are hated by their enemies, whereas they really just need the out of the way to do what they want. Like how Victor wants to replace humanity, but Carson, Michael and Deucalion are in their way.

Eye of The Storm-Bullet for My Valentine-Scream Aim Fire-2007
Lyrics:
Can you hear the thunder?
Can you feel the rain it pours?
Melt down all your windows
That barricade the doors
Mother nature’s fury takes you by the hand
Showing all but mercy
Wrecking death upon the land

Go!

[Chorus]
Caught in the eye of the storm
Did the heaven just open and fall?
We are caught in the eye of the storm
All that’s left are just bodies to mourn

Can you see the lightning?
Can you feel the wind it soars?
Pack up your belongings, let chaos take control
(Take control!)
Mother nature’s fury takes you by the hand
Rip this world to pieces
Bid farewell to all you know

Go!

[Chorus]

Yeah!

Caught in the eye of the storm
Caught in the eye of the storm
Caught in the eye of the storm

Can you hear the thunder?
Can you feel the rain it pours?
Melt down all your windows
That barricade the doors
Mother nature’s fury takes you by the hand
Showing all but mercy
Wrecking death upon the land

Go!

[Chorus]

To mourn!

This song is about a storm weather wise, or a storm in a persons life. This can relate to my books because the battle between the protagonists and antagonists is like a storm, or hurricane, and the people themselves are the eye of it, or the center. They may not realize it, but they are the center of all things concerning the “new race” and whether it exists or not. This also relates to my analysis, because by looking at this through a social perspective, there are usually a person or a group of people that are the most important, or the center, or in the case, the “eye”. They are the creators and destroyers, and everyone else is like the rest of the storm. Like Michael, Carson and Deucalion are the center of their side, or “eye”, and everyone else is the rest of the storm.

Screaming Bloody Murder-Sum 41-Screaming Bloody Murder-2011
Lyrics:
I’m not quite myself these days
Guess we all come undone
Time to time, in different ways
Well, I have myself to blame
Guess I don’t understand
I need help in many ways

God’s got a plan for me
Well I’m gonna tell you one thing
I don’t got the patience or the time
What can I say
I’m no angel, I’m not forsaken
But I can bleed

Tear me open, I believe
God will set you up to bleed
And no one can deceive
What is meant to be
And bloody murder we will scream

Well I guess it’s time for me
Tell me what I’m left to believe in
‘Cause I don’t know the concept of the pain
don’t want the faith, I’ll just lose it
I can prove it
Watch me bleed

Tear me open, I believe
God will set you up to bleed
And no one can deceive
What is meant to be
And bloody murder we will scream
God will set you up to tear me open

‘Cause I’m not giving up
No self-control
Suffocated to the bone
I’m my worst enemy
Who can’t be saved
I’m just His disgrace

Tear me open, I believe
God will set you up to bleed
And no one can deceive
What is meant to be
And bloody murder we will scream
God will set you up to tear me open

These days are strange, it’s true
There’s not a thing that I would change
No mistakes that I’d undo

This song to me is about blaming something for everything going wrong in a persons life. Like when the singer says “Well I guess it’s time for me, tell me what I’m left to believe in, cause I don’t know the concept of the pain”. I also think that it has something to do with God, like if everything terrible that happens is occurring because of God’s will, what are people left to believe in? That’s what I think the singer means by this. I’m not saying I agree with it. This interesting because God isn’t mentioned very much in both of these books, and maybe that’s the reason why. Maybe the people have thought that everything bad that happened was because of him, and that they began to lose their faith and religion. This doesn’t really relate to my analysis, but it relates to what happened in the book to a certain extent.

The Poison-Bullet For My Valentine-The Poison-2006
Lyrics
Now is your time to die
We’ve gathered here to say goodbye
No more you’ll cry
No reason left for you to fight
Feel pain no more
Emotions never felt before
Where do we go, we go she’ll never know

Holding on to you
To keep from falling
Your eyes are closing now
Another chapter’s ending

Hard times we always saw
There’s nothing left of you no more
Fear has no place, no place
Cover her face

Holding on to you
To keep from falling
Your eyes are closing now
Another chapter’s ending
This is our last goodbye (goodbye)

This is our time tonight

Holding on to you
To keep from falling

Your eyes are closing now
Another chapter’s ending
This is our time tonight

To me, this song is about a person dying from some sort of a disease, or “poison”. This relates to what happened in my books because the main antagonist, Victor Helios, releases these beings known as the “new race” which is aiming to take over humanity and replace it. These people of the “new race” are like the “poison” or disease that is wreaking havoc and death to humanity. This relates to my analysis of my two books because by looking at what happened though the social and gender lenses, these people’s do not justify their true actions, and what they wanted the world to become, which is what happened to some characters in the books.
Road to Nowhere-Bullet For My Valentine-Scream Aim Fire-2007
Lyrics
Tired and lonely still we stand
On a road to nowhere
Trapped in a world of endless days,
My engine’s stalling (Road to nowhere)
Body and mind are breaking down
On a road to nowhere
Destiny silent, hear no sound
As I wait forever.

Farewell, I’ll miss you
I’m sick of these goodbyes
‘Cause it tore us apart right from the start
I miss you

Feelings have failed me
Left me cold
On this road to nowhere
(Road to Nowhere)
Dreams are my saviors,
Save me now,
‘Cause I know I’m fallin’ (Oh yes)

Farewell, I’ll miss you
I’m sick of these goodbyes
‘Cause it tore us apart right from the start
I miss you

Candles burn slowly,
Flames shine so brightly
Light in the darkness,
Save me from madness again

Only the lonely,
Could possibly know me
Heat keeps on rising,
Fire engulfs me again

Keeps on rising

Farewell, I’ll miss you
I’m sick of these goodbyes
‘Cause it tore us apart right from the start
I miss you

Farewell, I’ll miss you
I’m sick of these goodbyes
‘Cause it tore us apart right from the start
I miss you

To me, this song gives a meaning of a person keep having to travel to different places and say goodbye to their loved ones. This relates to what happened in my books because characters are also getting tired of having to say goodbye to their loved ones, because of conflict between humanity and the new race. Like Carson, who always has to leave her autistic brother at home because of her job of protecting everyone. This relates to my analysis because since people in a society don’t do acts based on how they look (like if they look like a good person they’ll be a killer or something like that),
those who work as protectors (police, detectives, armies) will always have to leave their loved ones and travel a lot, as long as evil is existent in their world.

We’re All to Blame-Sum 41-Chuck-2004
Lyrics:
Take everything left from me
All! to! blame!

How can we still succeed taking what we don’t need?
Telling lies, alibis, selling all the hate that we breed,
Super-size our tragedies (you can’t define me, or justify greed),
Bought in the land of the free, (land, free)

And we’re all to blame,
We’ve gone to far, from pride to shame,
We’re trying so hard,
We’re dying in vain,
We’re hopelessly blissful and blind,
To all we are,
We want it all,
With no sacrifice!

Realize we spend our lives living in a culture of fear,
Stand to salute say thanks to the man of the year,
How did we all come to this (you can’t define me, or justify greed),
A greed that we just can’t resist (resist)

And we’re all to blame,
We’ve gone to far,
From pride to shame,
We’re trying so hard,
We’re dying in vain,
We’re hopelessly blissful and blind,
To all we are,
We want it all,
With no sacrifice!

Tell me now,
What have we done,
We don’t know,
I can’t allow,
What has begun to tear me down believe me now,
We have no choice left with our backs against the wall!

And now,
We’re all to blame,
We’ve gone to far,
From pride to shame,
We’re hopelessly blissful and blind,
When all we need,
Is something true to believe,
Don’t we all,
Everyone,
Everyone,
We will fall,

Cause we’re all to blame,
We’ve gone to far,
From pride to shame,
We’re trying so hard,
We’re dying in vain,
We want it all,
Everyone,
Don’t we all

This song to me means that people have become greedy, selfish and hateful to get what they want. This completely relates to what happened in my book because Victor Helios, the creator of the new race, hates everyone and is very selfish, and is very greedy. I think he is this way so he can get what he wants, whether it be something simple or something very complicated. This relates to my analysis because by looking at the books through a social lens, it shows that society has been corrupted by greed and selfishness, and everyone aims to do their own thing.

Becoming A Man

Theo Drivas 5/28/13

Mr. Vitale Inspirational Short Story

Becoming a Man: How 21 Jump Street Relates to the Theme of Masculinity

“Police! Freeze!!! Stop, I’m going to shoot! Stop!!” Schmidt said before he got trampled over by a giant fat guy. The giant fat guy was a criminal who evasively escaped from Schmidt because Schmidt wouldn’t shoot him. Schmidt just became a police officer with his best friend Jenko. Schmidt hasn’t proved his masculinity because he hasn’t been violent, adaptive, a quick thinker and protective. Schmidt has a long way to go to obtain these qualities while his friend, Jenko, has already displayed for three of the four qualities. While Schmidt was trampled by the fugitive biker, Jenko was chasing another fugitive biker. Jenko started with his bike but had to abandon it when his perpetrator ran away. That shows he was being adaptive. Then he jumped on top of a rock and tackled the fugitive biker. That shows he was a quick thinker and violent. Even though Jenko caught the fugitive, he didn’t read him his Miranda rights so the fugitive was allowed to leave without being charged with anything. The captain of the police station was angered by this action and sent the two officers to a secret division that specializes in young arrogant people who act immature and irresponsibly. There they are sent out to infiltrate drug dealers and find the supplier. Throughout their time back in high school Schmidt becomes friends with the popular kids and a couple of them are the dealers of the deadly drug. Schmidt and Jenko follow the dealers to a drop off realizing the dealers meet with the biker fugitives that escaped from them before. Schmidt accidently hits one of the bikers when he and Jenko were trying to be secretive. The biker jumps on their car not recognizing them. As Schmidt and Jenko try to escape, the bikers chase them. The bikers start shooting at Schmidt and Jenko on the highway while they were chasing Schmidt and Jenko. Schmidt finds a gun in the glove compartment of the car they were in. He was ready to shoot the biker but froze and Jenko pulled the trigger for Schmidt. They escape the bikers and return back to the school. Schmidt was angry at Jenko for pulling the trigger for him because Schmidt never has the opportunity to be independent. Jenko argues back with Schmidt letting Schmidt know that he wasn’t even going to shoot the biker because he’s not a man yet. Schmidt and Jenko argue and disrupt the school play which Schmidt returned to the school to be in. The principle of the school expels the both of them. The captain of their unit throws them off the case. Schmidt and Jenko are still upset at each other and were going to leave each other. They weren’t going to be friends anymore. All the sudden one of the dealers returns to Schmidt’s house asking Jenko and Schmidt for help still not knowing they are cops. They agree to help the dealer, knowing that they can solve the case here and now. They go to a secret room where they meet the supplier later finding out that the bikers enter the room no later than they did. Before Schmidt and jenko can do anything about the supplier, the bikers recognize that they are cops. Boom!!! Booooom!!!! The room fills with gun shots. Schmidt and Jenko find cover behind the couch and weren’t shot. The dealer leaves the room with the money and the bikers follow him because they want the money. Schmidt and Jenko follow them too. They all get in vehicles chasing each other. Schmidt and Jenko take care of the bikers by throwing a bomb in their car and it explodes. As a result, the suppliers car crashes and he is outside the car with a hostage. Schmidt and Jenko are outside of the car too. The supplier tries to shoot Schmidt but Jenko jumps in the way, saving Schmidt. Schmidt has the chance to become a man, here and now. He is holding a gun and he knows he can do it. He has an open shot of the supplier and takes it. Schmidt resulted to violence to save himself, his partner and the hostage. Throughout the infiltration Schmidt became a man.

The Green Mile & Christine by Stephen King

Down in the scorching heat of Georgia there are two boys. One is named John and the other Tom. John grew up in a big mansion because his father makes a lot of money in his profession. He receives a good education, has a lot of friends and doesn’t really give much effort to anything. A few blocks away from John lives Tom. His house is considerably smaller, his education is not as good but he really tries to excel in anything that he does. He gets straight A’s in school and knows he will have to work very hard for an academic scholarship to get into college. He is also a good three sport varsity athlete. His team usually does not win because the school population is smaller than other schools in the area and the equipment is not as good. John gets on every team he tries out for because he donates a lot of money. John is already guaranteed a scholarship to Princeton University. The principal of Johns school knows Tom from sports and knows that he is a great kid. He is very smart and a good athlete and the principal knows that Tom has unfair disadvantages to John. He knows that John means well but does not put in the work. He is trying to help Tom but it is hard considering Tom’s family can barely pay for college. He is amazed that a few blocks can determine a kid’s future. He tries to explain to colleges that social status should not have anything to do with scholarships and that some kids don’t get a chance because of their social status. Miraculously Tom makes it through the school year and is the valedictorian and MVP of his team while John is just having fun hanging out with his friends. The two teams met in the finals and Tom realized that this was his chance to prove himself to the world. The game is underway and after 2 quarters it is all tied up. Tom is the leading scorer and John is guarding him. They start talking and realize that they have a lot in common. It is the final seconds of the game and the ref makes a bad call which helps Johns team. The ref knew that John’s team had a strong history of winning and was a better school. Tom could not believe the fact that the ref actually handed the other team the game. Even though Tom was clearly the best player John was talking to college coaches after the game. To was furious but knew that all he could do was work harder. A couple more months had passed and it was almost time for graduation. Tom finally heard from a small school that was just starting an athletic program. Tom knew he could help the team, John was getting ready to go play for Princeton and receive one of the best educations in the world. John would graduate and get a good paying job while Tom would have to work very hard and search for a job. Halfway through the season something happened that no one had expected, a big time athletic college saw Tom play and wanted him to transfer. He had finally gotten his dream of playing D1 sports! For the next three years Tom worked very hard and did reasonably well in college while John didn’t pay attention but stayed in because of his famous family. After school ended Tom got and average job and realized that he was going to try and eliminate the affects of social status on people’s future.
